Fiona Stunden is a section player viola and joined the Orchestra in 1995.
Q. What is your instrument/ position/ job title in the Orchestra?
A. Tutti Viola
Q. When did you join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra?
A. January 1995
Q. What was your earliest musical experience?
A. My Dad played me Handel, jazz and Pink Floyd in the womb, and there was always something playing in the house.
Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?
A. I think I would probably want to sing, I absolutely love it.
Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?
A. I would want to be part of the health service, either as a nurse or therapist of some kind.
Q. What’s on your record/CD/MP3 Player/Spotify Playlist right now?
A. Actually the Foo Fighters, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Turin Brakes and classical Indian vocal music. Also Tom Waits, Nick Kershaw, Thomas Dolby and Scottish folk. How's that for a mix?
Q. What is your favourite Royal Liverpool Philharmonic recording?
A. Probably the latest Shostakovich CD (Symphonies Nos.5 & 9 ) It's amazing.
Q. What is your most memorable moment with the Orchestra so far?
A. I think I shall never forget the tour to Singapore in 1993.
Q. What do you like to do with your free time outside music?
A. I read a lot, mostly Sci-fi. I love cooking and baking. Riding my motorbike. Yoga. Shopping for shoes (and anything else). Going to the movies with a mate. TV dramas. Spending time with the other half.
Q. What do you like most about Liverpool?
A. The people. Everyone's a comedian, or a singer. There's a tremendous sense of optimism in Liverpool that can only come from its residents.
