Martin Richardson is Principal First Violin number five at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and joined the Orchestra in December 2000.

Q. What is your instrument/ position/ job title in the Orchestra?
A.
First Violin Sub Principal.

Q. When did you join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra?
A.
1996.

Q. What was your earliest musical experience?   
A
. Trying to play recorder at primary school - and failing.

Q. If you could play a different instrument, which one would it be?   
A.
Bass guitar.

Q. What would you most like to do if you weren’t a musician?   
A
. Probably a premiership footballer with a long term injury. Otherwise, work as an antique clock restorer in my father's business. N.B. wouldn't mind having a go at being Prime Minister either!

A.
Pink Floyd, Queen, and other greats.  

Q. What is your favourite Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra recording?    
A
. Must be our latest Shostakovich CD, Symphonies 5 & 9.

Q. What is your most memorable moment with the Orchestra so far?   
A.
I have a very short memory, but probably having my photo taken on the Kop with the recently won European Cup, while playing the violin in 2005! Also Shostakovich's 8th Symphony last season.

Q. What do you like to do with your free time outside music?   
A.
Spend time with my wife Kate, and sons Ben, James and Michael. I enjoy running, playing football and cricket. Being outside!

Q. What do you like most about Liverpool?   
A.
Liverpool Football Club... and everything else as well.
