Emily Howard

World Premiere of Symphony: Magnetite - Part 1

Commissioned by Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008 for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Magnetite opened the RLPO’s Capital of Culture season conducted by Vasily Petrenko in December 2007. When the opportunity arose to write for the RLPO and Petrenko again, Emily Howard chose to incorporate Magnetite as a movement of a longer work, with the same source of inspiration. The original piece is now the second movement of a two-movement work (that plays without a break) entitled Symphony: Magnetite.
