Liverpool Philharmonic, one of the UK’s most forward-looking music organisations.

Community Programme

Liverpool Philharmonic can offer bespoke projects to community groups, organisations and adult and lifelong learning agencies that will:

• Increase enjoyment and participation in music, developing musical skills, knowledge, appreciation and understanding
• Use music as a vehicle to enhance personal, social and community development in local settings and/or at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Tailored projects developed through community engagement can lead to an increase in self-esteem, confidence and aspirations on individual and community levels, using music and creativity as a positive force for change in people and places.

They can help to develop a closer connection to Liverpool Philharmonicand our work, overcoming a range of barriers and enabling people to access the wide range of artistic programmes across the RLPO and ensembles, and throughout the range of musical genres on offer at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

An example of this is our 6-year regeneration programme, Music for Life, in the Kensington area of Liverpool funded by Kensington Regeneration. Working through schools and the community, the project has resulted in over 8,000 visits to concerts at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall by Kensington residents.

Music for Life was selected as one of five Exemplar Learning Programmes by regeneration agency, RENEW North West, in 2007. The award recognised the ‘demonstrable link between arts education and regeneration forged by the project’ and the ‘clear evidence of enhanced self-esteem and confidence, both of the individuals and the schools involved’.
