Trips with the Orchestra

If you love Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and would like to join us on our tours around the world, we've organised, in association with Maestro Travel, a selection of travel opportunities to hear the Orchestra and Vasily abroad. You'll travel with a Liverpool Philharmonic staff member and the price of your trip includes a modest donation to Liverpool Philharmonic.

24 - 27 February 2012 - Vasily in London

Our first escorted weekend for 2012 is a visit to London during Olympic year for a performance at the Royal Festival Hall when Vasily returns to conduct the Philharmonia in a concert featuring the Canadian violinist James Ehnes. The programme includes works by Hindemith, Sibelius & Rachmaninov. The weekend includes dinner at a private London Club in the heart of St James on Friday evening and a coffee concert on Sunday morning at Wigmore Hall. On Saturday you have a choice of two performances; ‘Strictly' fans can enjoy Anton & Erin's "Let's Do It", or you can hear the legendary Murray Perachia in concert with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields (Beethoven Piano Concerto No.2). We stay at the 4* Cumberland Hotel conveniently situated at Marble Arch and close to Selfridges and Oxford Street. Rail travel is included from your choice of Northwest stations.

28 February - 2 March 2012 - Vasily in Copenhagen
NEW! - Go As You Please
Our first ‘Go as you please' concert is in Copenhagen when Vasily performs with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The programme includes pianist Boris Hiltberg performing Dohnanyi Variations on a Nursery Song and Rachmaninov's oratorio The Bells.

£385 per person twin share; £595 per person double/sole use inc 3 night bed & breakfast and top price ticket for the VP concert. Air travel (if required) is at cost applicable at the time of booking.

11 - 15 April 2012 - Vasily in Barcelona
Vasily takes his baton to the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in April with a programme including Elgar's Enigma Variations and Brahms' Violin Concerto with Midori. Flying direct from Liverpool to Barcelona and staying at the first class Hotel Inglaterra, located in the heart of the city just off Playa de Catalunya. Our visit includes a full programme of sightseeing, including the beautiful Palau de la Musica, a welcome dinner, top price seats for VP's performance.

£695 per person twin share; £895 per person double/sole use inc air travel from Liverpool, all transfers, sightseeing, welcome dinner, four nights hotel inc breakfast and top price seats for the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra concert.

15 - 22 April - extension to Madrid, Castile & Leon
As many of you will know, Vasily is also Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra of Castile & Leon and will be conducting in Valladolid on the following weekend. We thought this a good opportunity and a nice time of year to visit this interesting area of Spain. We will travel by high speed train from Barcelona to Madrid and stay two nights in the heart of the city. We will then travel via Avila to Salamanca (1 night) then to Leon (2 nights) and spend our last 2 nights in Valladolid. His concert is with the renowned violinist Vadim Repin and the programme includes Rachmaninov's  Symphony No. 2 and the McMillan Violin Concerto. We return to Madrid via Segovia and fly back direct to Liverpool late Sunday evening.

The cost of the 11 night arrangement (4 nights in Barcelona and 7 on tour) is £1795 per person twin share; £2295 per person double/sole use inc all of the Barcelona programme plus first class hotels for 7 nights on bed and breakfast basis, 4 dinners, top price tickets for Vasily's Castile & Leon concert and a full programme of sightseeing throughout.

26 - 29 April 2012 - Vasily & Orchestre de la Suisse Romande Geneva
NEW! Go As You Please
Vasily makes his debut with the French speaking ‘Suisse Romande' next April with a concert at Victoria Hall in Geneva. He is joined by the renowned American Baritone Thomas Hampson in a programme of Mahler lieder and the mighty Shostakovich 7th Symphony ‘The Leningrad'. Flights are available direct from Liverpool to Geneva.

£385 per person twin share; £595 per person double/sole use inc 3 nights bed and breakfast and top price ticket for the VP concert. Air travel (if required) is at cost applicable at the time of booking.

10 - 13 May - Vasily opens the Prague Spring Festival
Each year the ‘Prague Spring' opens on 12th May with a performance of Smetana's Ma Vlast. In 2012 they have invited Vasily to conduct the Czech Philharmonic for the opening concert. The visit is hosted by Milena Grenfell-Baines and you will fly from Manchester direct to Prague, be transferred to the beautiful 4* K & K Central Hotel and spend three nights (more if you wish) in the heart of the city. The hotel is two minutes walk from the Smetana Hall and we have top price tickets reserved. A welcome dinner is included as is a half day sightseeing tour of the city for anyone who hasn't been before but otherwise the stay is quite relaxed and unstructured. Extra nights can be added if required.
